And it couldn't have gone better. Boring for a blog post, but woots for us.
Saskia had another glorious 2 and a half hour sleep in the arvo (trying not to get attached), so I was able to try on a few outfits, choose some (impractical) accessories, make a special card & book a restaurant. JanMa and Grandfather happily popped over to babysit and she went down after her shower without a hitch.
I sprayed perfume, he wore a new top, we held hands on the walk to the restaurant, I drank red wine, he ordered vegetarian so we could share, we talked about plans for travel in the future, I had fried ice cream for dessert (what am I? 12 years old?), he told me beautiful things about becoming a father and we laughed and really looked at each other.
We came home to find Mum and Dad curled up on the couch. They said there hadn't even been a peep. 10 minutes later we heard a little sound...
Oh it could have all gone differently. But we were so grateful. It was a special night after all.
Happy 6 year anniversary, Meu Amor.
If I know what love is, it is because of you.

Sounds like the best possible first date after baby.
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed yourselves xx
It sure was! You can only hope....and we were lucky this time :)
DeleteSo. Romantic. So. Jealous :)
ReplyDeleteSounds like a fab night out and I can feel all the love from up here.
Happy Weekend!

Sigh.....sounds like a beautiful evening. I am interested to know where you went for dinner, I am moving back to Canberra at the end of April....yipee! Love your red accessories and spotty ring. Enjoy these nights, a lovely treat for you both :)
ReplyDeleteWe went to a little Vietnamese Place called My's...it was run by the same people who owned the restaurant we went to 6 years ago on our first date...we're kind of sentimental like that! Dags x
DeleteGlad you're happy about the move back to the Can ;)
Sounds blissful. I only hope our first baby-free date night goes as smoothly! Not that I think that will happen for a while...not sure I could leave Josephine quite yet! Xx
ReplyDeleteNell, it was just lovely. I couldn't imagine leaving Saskia when she was only a few months, but you'll notice that things like that start to feel more possible. She won't take a bottle (with breast milk) so we were only away for a few hours in the end - but I still missed her :) x
DeleteThe perfect date! It's always good when it works out so well the first time, makes it so much easier for the next time.
ReplyDeleteWe always, always talk about future traveling on our date nights. x
And isn't it lovely to dream about and plan travels? Almost as exciting as the actual adventures!

Sounds gorgeous! My husband and I had our first night out together since Fletch was born too, just last week. It felt so novel and SO nice to have time to just chat the way we used to. I think the key will be trying to make it a regular thing! xx
ReplyDeleteDefinitely. K and I have a 'date night in' every Thursday where we switch off phones, computers and make an effort to set the table nicely and pour a glass of wine. It's a good way to ensure we have some time together and until the little one is a bit older and we can duck out a little easier, it's a lovely manageable way to have a date :)
DeleteLooking forward to checking in and seeing how your little man is going x
Yay for date night! I think we are well overdue for one in this household. I had a couple of hours to myself yesterday whilst the boys went out for the first time together. I had no idea what to do with myself, so I vacuumed. Seriously.
ReplyDeleteHappy anniversary Mama and Papa. xx
Oh do it Milky! You'll relish the time and giggle like school kids. And the best part is, you'll only be out for a few hours but will get that delicious feeling of missing someone and then being able to kiss them hello/goodnight x
DeleteVacuuming? Goodness lady, I hope there was a cuppa and a mag flick in there somewhere..... x
Sounds like such a lovely night out. Gorgeous card too! x
ReplyDeleteIt was lovely. Something we used to do all the time, but this time it felt like the giddy feeling of a first date all over again x
DeleteSounds very romantic...no doubt you both really truly deserved some quiet moments together! x
ReplyDeletewell it was a cheap and cheerful vietnamese place so = noisy, running waiters, house wine, tables squeezed in, kitschy decor...maybe not your typical idea of a romantic night out, but we loved it all the same! looking forward to catching up on your newborn adventures x
DeleteAhhh, loved reading all the comments and your replies to thise are much as the post itself. What a perfect night with your K. Brought back memories of my first date after child birth - we were stunned and proud we managed to discuss things other than the babe!
ReplyDeleteDo you ever play that game in restaurant or cafes where you guess how long couples have been together and wonder what special occasion (if any) they are celebrating?....Now, I'm so going to wonder how many couples are on their first post-baby date!
DeleteAlso have been meaning to say, how funny that my dear friend Carla bought that card for us - from you!
x
happy anniversary! so glad it went well :)
ReplyDeleteI'm already looking forward to the next one! Hopefully not too far away x
Delete(LOVING the new blog lady)
It sounds perfect. Those times are so important - do them regularly, even when it is not a special occasion:) xx
ReplyDeleteI think so...It's lovely to get a bit dressed up and hold hands x
DeleteHappy belated anniversary! I swore I commented on this post a while back - Blogger mustn't have like me :) Sounded like you had such a lovely night out. We're having our first night out since Sophie's arrival tomorrow night - my 30th birthday present - dinner out at my favourite restaurant then going to see Mary Poppins - then on Monday it's our anniversary but will have to celebrate that one in a few weeks time instead :)
ReplyDeleteHope your special night out went well and the girls enjoyed their night with special 'sitters'. Can't wait to hear what MP was like :) Fun! And how lovely that you have another night out up your sleeve - tops!

oh this is beautiful claire. Saskia obviously knew that it would be best to sleep...I love her intuition x
ReplyDeleteShe's a bit lovely to have known and been so kind to us. Intuition, yes...what a beautiful way to look at it x
DeleteHappy to see how much you have enjoyed this date! God bless you both. Stay deeply in love. :')
