Play
An orange from the fruit bowl. Wormie. My Elk beads. iPhone. Rice in a small container*. Crocheted teether. Fluff from the Flokati rug. Wooden coaster. Sophie. Mama's hair. The wooden rattle with beads and a bell ($4 from the local oppie).
These are a few of your favourite things.
I've been thinking a lot about play and toys lately. Heuristic Play and Treasure Baskets. Inspired by a post I read a while ago and bookmarked, and also this lady's recent post. Looking at Saskia's preferred playthings, more than half are everyday objects and only a handful are 'toys'. So I'm sure there's something to this.
Now that she has been comfortably sitting up for a while I think it'd be a great time to introduce a Treasure Basket. I'm actually a wee bit excited about the treasure hunt for objects too.
...oh, and speaking of toys and playthings, how sweet are these little guys in Ms Milky's new Etsy shop?
*ok, it's a unused specimen jar!

We've found the same here - it's like Sophie purposely heads for the things she knows aren't toys :) I love those crocheted teethers - my little miss is going through all sorts of grief teething at the moment - maybe I should get one of those...
ReplyDeleteOh no, poor little thing. The teethers are ace for little gums - and they are so sweet. And if you get one before Mothers Day you'll get a free Mama's necklace (also ace!)...x
DeleteSuch beautiful colours in that basket! We are the same here, with only few toys being played with day after day. Books are another thing altogether, both my 4 year old and 18 month old constantly have one in their hands. Oh, and colouring pencils in the other- sometimes resulting in 'artistic liberties' that I'm not very happy about! xx
ReplyDeleteIt must be so lovely to see them enjoy reading (or just books!)...In the last few weeks Saskia has graduated from wanting to eat books, to sitting on my lap and listening, reaching out for certain pages. Such a delight x
Deleteps I remember one of your posts about finding 'hidden' artworks. SO cute!
The tv remote, magazines and newspapers, my hair, dada's beard... anything that isn't a toy! I saw this article on heuristic play on another blog, and I too got excited about putting a treasure basket together. Might make it my task for today...
ReplyDeleteP.S Thanks for the milky shop mention and your kind words lovely ;)
I was quite nervous about it all, I'm not too good at self promotion! xx
Oh yeah, we have an old remote that has already found its way into our 'regular' toy basket!
DeleteYour promo post was sweet. Nothing to be nervous about, as it sounds like you have a lot of support (deservedly so) x

ReplyDeleteOooh, Gus has the same Blabla blanket - I love it! SO warm!
ReplyDelete(he loves the iphone too, does this almost evil world domination chuckle when he gets it, and his face lights up. uh oh.)
(I saw you mention the teether on Miss Milky's blog and I bought one, such amazing value AND a free necklace! Can't wait!)
