Longing
My parents have been travelling in the States for the past few weeks and we are missing them like crazy.
When the days drag, I wish that Grandfather would appear at the door for his regular afternoon visit. Or when I want to run a quick errand, I wish JanMa was around so she could take the Little One on walks about the garden.
But more than that, I miss that they are missing her growing up. And I miss talking to them about how she is growing up (every little detail!). It's so true that joy shared is twice the joy.
So I send them a photograph or a series of photographs each day. At first I wasn't too sure if this made it easier or worse for them, but they told me to keep them coming.
This recent bunch was one of their favourites. They gave us the gnome as a bit of a joke when we first moved in - and Sassy just loves him. She's always waving at him, chatting, crawling up nose to nose. And that ABC catalogue is rarely out of her reach. I've come up with some imaginative ways to 'read' that one...
(They are coming home the day before Saskia's birthday. Phew!)

Sorry to hear you're both missing your parents so much. I suppose the reunion will make it all worthwhile!
ReplyDeleteThank you for your sweet message earlier this week - it meant a lot.
Sal x
I am so excited about the reunion. Seeing her face when she saw K for the first time at the airport after a week of holidaying up Queensland was priceless. It sounds silly, but I am imagining how it is going to play out already! x
Deleteps. I meant every word of my message - you are strong to talk about it.
Gorgeous photos. I expect your parents are missing you all just the same. What a wonderful birthday present for Saskia to have her grandparents home.
ReplyDeleteShe'll be blown away, I'm sure. She always tries to 'get in' the screen with them on Skype, so I imagine that first hug will be well & truly full of love x
Deletethey are such beautiful photos
ReplyDeleteits so true about sharing joy...
x
I always think how lucky I am to have both my parents so close. Such a precious time to share with family x
DeleteOh she is just getting sweeter and sweeter by the day! xx
ReplyDeleteP.S. adore her hat! :-D
I bought that hat in a bit of a rush as I was caught out by warm weather, but it's been such a goodie. And reversible too! I love how it sometimes flops so low over her eyes and all you can see is cheek x
DeleteSuch beautiful images...your parents must almost feel they are there. My dad is "Grandfather" too! Not many are these days. Love it! Must be hard having them away. So wonderful that you have a special connection with them. WIshing you a week of smiles, cups of tea and gnome chatting :)
ReplyDeleteThanks lovely. Another G'father! Tops! We all thought he was joking at first - but now it's stuck! I have indeed had a week of all those (wonderful) things x
DeleteI love your photos, beautiful. xx
ReplyDeleteThanks Jody! I'm just loving this new lens that K bought recently...I find I have a ton of profile shots as little Sass is not about having a camera in her face AT ALL! She suddenly gets all serious. Funny girl x
DeleteOh, I totally empathise with your feelings of longing for your parents to be here.
ReplyDeleteIt's so true that joy shared is twice the joy - I love how you described that so well!
Ronnie xo
I'm going to have to insist that they don't ever do this again....(jokes). I'm so glad they are having a great time, but I know they are kind of desperate to get back and see her again too. We are so lucky to have such involved and present parents, aren't we? x
DeleteGorgeous photos. I especially love the ones where Saskia is concentrating on her toys.
ReplyDeleteIt's so good that you have a loving and supportive Grandfather and JanMa(which makes it all the more tough when they're away). When my parents go away, they send lots of postcards to their grandkids. Skye loves getting snail mail...very exciting for a two year old. xx
Oh me too! Kills me....How sweet that Skye gets postcards in the mail. Such a simple gesture, but one that goes a long way, and yes, would produce much excitement. I don't know anyone that doesn't love a little bit of snail mail x
DeleteHow lovely to have your parents so close and so involved in Saskia's life. You're very lucky and I can see why you must be missing them immensely. I adore the photo of Saskia talking to Mr Garden Gnome xx
