His first Father's Day

fathers day12
We let him sleep in. And Sassy opted for the traditional present: (happy) socks, hand-picked chocolates and a subscription for a fat kind of magazine that you'd never buy yourself. I think the socks will make him smile at work and think of his (happy) Little One.

We picnicked by the lake in the afternoon sun, eating olives, turkish dips and bread, and took Sassy on the miniature railway. K said it could be our little tradition.

Although it was his first Father's Day as a Papa, I think it was a hard day for K. He was missing, and remembering his own.

Meu Amor, I love the way you love your little girl. There is no better feeling than knowing we are three...Happy Father's Day to my own Dad. I hope you know how much I adore you.

One for the baby book

DSC_0487
Little One woke up yesterday morning with the tip of a little white tooth peeking through her bottom gums. I just caught a glimpse as she laughed. She's kept it well hidden since, but both Mama and Papa have felt the little ridges. Her first tooth!

There haven't been any red cheeks or much crankiness at all. Just super long naps during the day. For the moment...

*Photo taken on our visit to Norma. On a rare moment that she'll eat in 'public' (it always helps that someone other than Mama does the feeding). Since the little tooth has appeared though, her appetite has disappeared. Hmmmmm...

Picnic at the Botans

Beating the heat, we headed to the Botanical Gardens for a picnic with Jan-Ma and The Grandfather. Saskia sported her new bonnet, lovingly handmade by a sweet friend (who spied the pattern here) and we ate last night's spanikopita on the lawns near the rainforest gully. Call me a snob, but I can't do paper plates and plastic forks. Even if carrying the picnic basket nearly kills me.

ps. I've received some comments via email that haven't posted. Not sure what's happening there...but thank you for sending them through x

Australia Day Picnic

Threw together some roast veggie baguettes and headed out to meet some friends at the National Museum of Australia for an Australia Day picnic. Found a shady spot and enjoyed the view. Feel a bit unpatriotic but Australia Day doesn't stir any national pride in me particularly. So I guess it was a little funny that we went to the Museum.

Really wanted to check out The Canning Stock Route exhibition but the crowds put us off. Ended up heading home for a lazy afternoon cool down in the pool and some more Mad Men. We must be the last people on earth to see it. I'd love a nighty like Betty Draper please.

Hello Friday evening, my old friend

Took ourselves out for a Brodburger down at the lake to welcome the weekend. Felt like Friday took for ever to come this week. K played around with his birthday present (the treasured Nikon) and we lay on the blanket enjoying the warm evening. We were joined at first by seagulls and magpies, and then K&D turned up (happy coincidence) - and of course Miss Mims.

The veggie burgers are pretty ace at Brodburger - fat with roast vegetable fillings and served out of a little red caravan. It looks a little basic in the dodgy long shot, but what you can't see are the fairy lights around the serving window and the menu burnt into the wooden board - all sexy 1950s tattoo style, if that makes sense?
