Zoom
Tomorrow we leave for a fortnight's holiday in (hopefully) sunny Queensland. It will be the Little One's first plane ride, and despite being a terrible flyer I am really looking forward to the journey. Novelty? Influence of lovely calm friends who insist the key is a breastfeed on the up and down? Ignorance? Mama's intuition? We'll see...
For carry on, I'm packing a new little toy as well as some oldies but goodies, slipping in the niftiest little change mat, wearing my chew-friendly beads and the sling, and I have this sweet little app downloaded (this will be the last resort but I'm willing to overcome screen mama-guilt for this occasion). Any other last minute tips - or advice in time for our onward journey next week to Far North Queensland and back home?
Fingers crossed it will be romper weather...

We're going to FNQ next week as well!! Can't wait. Last year we went to Sth Africa so some learnings from that trip would be for Mama and/or Papa to take a spare change of clothes themselves. Lenny vomited all over me, including on and down my bra, so I spent the rest of the journey (15+hours) braless in my husband's jumper and vomit soaked pants! Obviously she wouldn't be having lots of snacks yet, but we took a variety of healthy, interesting options for Lenny to munch on throughout the journey. I must say, this year we are also putting a bit of play school on the i pad, just incase! Enjoy
ReplyDeleteHello you! Lovely to see your name pop up...And yikes! That's a priceless tip - thanks! x
DeletePs. We'll be hitting up Cairns, Palm Cove & PD - might see you there!
You'll be fine! I'm a shocking flyer and I actually found Gus a great distraction. Just holding him calmed me down. As Saskia isn't on the move yet, she won't know any different and will most likely have a very fun time on her parents laps! Gus just played, ate, slept, just like on the ground. He got a bit shouty once whilst descending and I do think it was his ears - I forced him to feed and that sorted him out. You'll be fine! And have a great holiday!!
ReplyDeleteThat pretty much sums up our experience. I think I almost enjoyed it x
DeleteThose rompers are seriously cute! I love the one with the purple trim. We have flown several times with our little boy because my husbands parents live out of town. Breastfeeding him on the way up and down really did seem to help! Although it was quite a sight, his head practically on one strangers lap and his feet kicking the other, but it helps! :) Hope you have some sun and a great trip!
ReplyDeleteThat's my favourite too. My lovely sister bought that for Saskia from a little French vintage store. Super cute....the weather in Cairns looks promising for romper wear, thankfully! x
DeleteI've not travelled on a plane with Grace or Sophie so I don't have any advice from personal experience sorry although I've heard about the breastfeeding on take off and landing too. I'm sure Saskia will be angel for you. have a wonderful holiday x
ReplyDeleteThanks lovely. Sass was indeed an angel...and totally charmed nearby passengers x
DeleteWe flew with Leo at about the same age and really, it was fine (and I'm not a great flyer either). Breastfeeding up and down helps and lots of jiggling on knees! Just enjoy the fact that she's not moving about too much! Enjoy the trip... We're also thinking a winter trip to FNQ is in order so will be keen to hear where you get to. Happy holidays!
ReplyDeleteOh it's heaven feeling the gentle warmth again. Will post a bit about the holiday when we get back. Hope to hear you've booked the trip x
DeleteThose rompers are cute! I flew with my four year old when she was 8 months (on my way own!) and she was a dream. Slept all the way there and home! Hope Saskia does the same!
ReplyDeleteOh how lucky! No sleep for Saskia (this time)...she's such a curious little thing, think the new experience was too thrilling for her to want to snooze. She just looked about, sticky beaked at nearby passengers, gawked at the inflight entertainment & scrambled from lap to lap...Maybe the novelty will wear off for our next leg to Cairns?! x
DeleteFar North Queensland?? Where are you headed? Those rompers are the sweetest - you may have to layer them with leggings and a cardi though (still such a cute transeasonal look!) xx
ReplyDeleteWe're visiting a special aunty & uncle in their new apartment in Cairns (I'm a little sad they've moved from Palm Cove, but they live right on the esplanade near the children's water park/play area so it should still be pretty ace!)...Any hot tips while I'm up there? I hear it's hitting some pretty sweet notes weather-wise...fingers crossed we can bear some Boticelli legs in those rompers! x

ReplyDeleteOh I always have the aisle - couldn't bear looking out the window (totally silly & irrational!).
DeleteDo you know I've hardly picked up the big camera to take photos? I've just snapped a few on my iPhone. Find I get so lazy with snapping pics on holidays. x
Yippee! Happy holidays! In six weeks we head off to far north queensland for a holiday too. Fancy that... x
ReplyDeleteIt's so lovely to have a holiday to look forward to. Hoping you're finding some quiet times in the busy days you're having x
DeleteThose suits are so cute, I love the flower one! My baby has not yet arrived and we already have 3 plane trips before Chirstmas locked in! I am little worried I have bitten off more than I can chew, would love to hear how you go. Hope you get some sunshine, Liz
ReplyDeleteWell the first leg went very well....will have to let you know how the other flights go. I felt surprisingly optimistic actually. Short trips are sure to be a winner though - full attention, a new space to take in/explore, tv screens, seemingly endless lap time - what's not to live if you're a little person?....Looking forward to hearing more about your pregnancy journey. Such a sweet, precious time x
DeleteSome airlines have baby bassinets, so see if the one you’re riding has one. If it does, they might be able to seat you near it or by it, and you can use it for when your little one is sleeping. It’ll keep your baby safe and secure, and it’ll give you enough time to rest as well.
