Return

photo DSC_0443-3_zps75d6b308.jpg Today was my first day back at work. I sipped my smoothie from the kitchen bench and couldn't look at you without feeling a tingle of tears. You spent the day with your Dada and visited your little cousins. I spent the day wondering about what games you were playing, if you woke up in a mood to read books in your cot and whether you asked for me, calling my name, mumma, with a question mark.

In truth, I did enjoy the bus ride into work reading a new book, catching up with dear friends who also happen to be work colleagues and inspiring ladies, being surprised with a welcome back card and small gift, and walking out for lunch as soon as the hunger hit. I longed for that cuddle from you at the end of the day.

As you and your Dada walked through the door at the end of the day (I beat you home...that wasn't how I imagined it either), I waited for the look of sweet jubilation to cross your face. Bubbies? Bubbies? You took one look at me and launched yourself at the basket of dolls and dress ups.

  1. big hugs for you mama! change is so hard, especially when your smalls are involved.. I have been blessed to be able to stay at home since having our first (not without plenty of sacrifice to make it happen) but am now slowly learning the ache of the working mama's heart.. thankfully my work is controlled by me, but spending a whole day away from my smalls is as hard as it is enjoyable. sometimes I wonder how we mothers handle so much emotion! xx

  2. Yay! Glad the first day went well for everyone. And yep, that's how it was for me too. Hardly a cuddle on my return! But I figure that's the sign of a well attached litte one! xx

  6. I'm so glad your first day back at work went well, and don't worry - I barely get a cuddle or even a hello glance when I've been away for the entire day! How rude! ;) I'm sure there will be days soon where you will get the sweetest welcome home hugs. And how lovely that Saskia spent the day with her Dada and family. I hope the rest of the weeks settling in to your new routine go smoothly, lovely Mama! x
