Date Night Out

Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket
Our first night out together, just the two of us, since the Little One's birth.

And it couldn't have gone better. Boring for a blog post, but woots for us.

Saskia had another glorious 2 and a half hour sleep in the arvo (trying not to get attached), so I was able to try on a few outfits, choose some (impractical) accessories, make a special card & book a restaurant. JanMa and Grandfather happily popped over to babysit and she went down after her shower without a hitch.

I sprayed perfume, he wore a new top, we held hands on the walk to the restaurant, I drank red wine, he ordered vegetarian so we could share, we talked about plans for travel in the future, I had fried ice cream for dessert (what am I? 12 years old?), he told me beautiful things about becoming a father and we laughed and really looked at each other.

We came home to find Mum and Dad curled up on the couch. They said there hadn't even been a peep. 10 minutes later we heard a little sound...

Oh it could have all gone differently. But we were so grateful. It was a special night after all.

Happy 6 year anniversary, Meu Amor.

If I know what love is, it is because of you.

    1. We went to a little Vietnamese Place called My's...it was run by the same people who owned the restaurant we went to 6 years ago on our first date...we're kind of sentimental like that! Dags x

Glad you're happy about the move back to the Can ;)

  4. Sounds blissful. I only hope our first baby-free date night goes as smoothly! Not that I think that will happen for a while...not sure I could leave Josephine quite yet! Xx

    1. Nell, it was just lovely. I couldn't imagine leaving Saskia when she was only a few months, but you'll notice that things like that start to feel more possible. She won't take a bottle (with breast milk) so we were only away for a few hours in the end - but I still missed her :) x

  5. The perfect date! It's always good when it works out so well the first time, makes it so much easier for the next time.
We always, always talk about future traveling on our date nights. x

  6. Sounds gorgeous! My husband and I had our first night out together since Fletch was born too, just last week. It felt so novel and SO nice to have time to just chat the way we used to. I think the key will be trying to make it a regular thing! xx

    1. Definitely. K and I have a 'date night in' every Thursday where we switch off phones, computers and make an effort to set the table nicely and pour a glass of wine. It's a good way to ensure we have some time together and until the little one is a bit older and we can duck out a little easier, it's a lovely manageable way to have a date :)

Looking forward to checking in and seeing how your little man is going x

  7. Yay for date night! I think we are well overdue for one in this household. I had a couple of hours to myself yesterday whilst the boys went out for the first time together. I had no idea what to do with myself, so I vacuumed. Seriously.
Happy anniversary Mama and Papa. xx

    1. Oh do it Milky! You'll relish the time and giggle like school kids. And the best part is, you'll only be out for a few hours but will get that delicious feeling of missing someone and then being able to kiss them hello/goodnight x

Vacuuming? Goodness lady, I hope there was a cuppa and a mag flick in there somewhere..... x

    1. well it was a cheap and cheerful vietnamese place so = noisy, running waiters, house wine, tables squeezed in, kitschy decor...maybe not your typical idea of a romantic night out, but we loved it all the same! looking forward to catching up on your newborn adventures x

    1. Do you ever play that game in restaurant or cafes where you guess how long couples have been together and wonder what special occasion (if any) they are celebrating?....Now, I'm so going to wonder how many couples are on their first post-baby date!

Also have been meaning to say, how funny that my dear friend Carla bought that card for us - from you!

  13. Happy belated anniversary! I swore I commented on this post a while back - Blogger mustn't have like me :) Sounded like you had such a lovely night out. We're having our first night out since Sophie's arrival tomorrow night - my 30th birthday present - dinner out at my favourite restaurant then going to see Mary Poppins - then on Monday it's our anniversary but will have to celebrate that one in a few weeks time instead :)
